Spiral Frog and Universal Hopping with Music Lovers
Close on the heels of my post on
Radio Verve came the annoucement that SpiralFrog has entered into a tieup with Universal. This allows music lovers to download for FREE music labels owned by Universal from SpiralFrog.
As the model works on ads, music lovers need to view 90 seconds of ad before being allowed to download music. The music cannot be burned on a CD. However, it can be played multiple number of times for 6 months before it expires. Besides this, it cannot be run on iPod, but can run on windows music player. Looks like a win win deal for Universal and SpiralFrog.
This allows a wider audience to Universal, will cut down music piracy and help Universal and SpiralFrog get some revenue from ads.
The model works on the line of radio station where the content (download free music) is given away for free and ads bring in the revenue.
Looks like web 2.0 is spawning a new set of business model.
