Skype : The return of the disruptive technology
As promised I would be mentioning a new disruptive technology called Skype.
For once its very easy to sum up "Skype" disruptive technolgy in 3 points -
1. It works.
2. It works in different OS.(Windows, Mac OS,Linux and Pocket PC)
3. It allows you to make free and unlimited telephone calls to your friends all over the world with a internet connection.
Yes, that's right. No hidden cost, no hidden bugs.
Its a big, free Internet telephony company. Skype was created by Niklas Zennström and Janus Friis, founders of KaZaA, the world’s most popular Internet software. Its VC funded and headquartered in Luxembourg.
Steps to make use of Skype:
1. Download skype from http://www.skype.com/download/.
2. Register, install, plug in your headset, speakers or USB phone
3. start calling your friends.
The calls have excellent sound quality and are highly secure with end-to-end encryption. You don’t even need to configure your firewall or router or any other networking gear.
Also, you can carry out conference calls with several customers with Skype and cut down your telephone bills.
But, remember, Skype is free if your friend also has a Skype connection.
To make calls to Landline and mobile phones, you need to make use of the paid version called "skypeout".
Also, they have SkypeIn, which in their words is as follows.
"With SkypeIn, you can get your own, regular phone number. So if your friends who aren’t using Skype want to call you by dialing a regular number, you can still receive the call in Skype. No matter where you are.
